This website is intended to share information about my counseling practice, Inner Journeys Counseling (“IJC”) as well as my podcast, Mindful Expat (“ME”). Throughout this document, I will use IJC/ME to refer to my business, which includes both my counseling practice and the podcast.

This page is designed to be in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and to help you be more informed about how your data may be collected and used by this Website.

Collection of Information

IJC/ME does not collect personal information automatically from anyone visiting the Website unless you voluntarily provide it or as otherwise indicated in this Privacy Policy. The user may provide personal information as a result of interacting with forms, applications, emails, or if the user is signing up for newsletter lists (“the Newsletters“). Any personally identifiable information that you voluntarily provide will be collected. IJC/ME does not sell information collected online. Information is retained in accordance with this Privacy Policy. This website does collect Internet based information for statistical purposes using standard third-party software programs to create summary statistics. The user’s IP address (unique computer identifier), Internet domain name (i.e., www.yourcompany.com), browser type, and pages viewed are examples of the type of statistical information collected. The statistics are used for the purpose of improving the Website for its users. The Website also gathers various types of anonymous information such as aggregate traffic data and transaction information to improve the Website and the services offered, as well as for marketing purposes.

IJC/ME does however reserve the right to share information with individuals or organizations (“IJC/ME Contractors”) who act on IJC/ME’s behalf or provide certain products or services to IJC/ME or its users, including those individuals or organizations that create, manage, or host this Website and the Newsletters, handle payment transactions, or assist IJC/ME to provide products and services to you.

If you use my online scheduling feature to book an appointment online, you will leave this Website and be directed to another website, which is a secure, protected online platform (SimplePractice) designed for therapists. That website complies with HIPAA and the EU’s data protection regulations. Any information you provide through that online portal (SimplePractice) will not be collected or stored by IJC/ME’s Website.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment directly on the website, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have left comments on this Website, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Email Distribution Lists (Newsletters)

IJC/ME uses a third party vendor (“Email List Vendor”) to prepare and maintain the Newsletters. IJC/ME uses the Newsletters to keep interested individuals informed about important topics. Certain IJC/ME Contractors have access to the Newsletters in order to assist IJC/ME to provide services to you. Individuals must affirmatively request to join the Newsletters. IJC/ME, the IJC/ME Contractors, including the Email List Vendor, will not divulge the email addresses of subscribers of the Newsletters unless otherwise authorized or required by law or court order. However, IJC/ME shall not be responsible for any failures of the IJC/ME Contractors, including the Email List Vendor, to preserve subscriber anonymity.

Children’s Privacy

IJC/ME does not knowingly contact or collect personal information from children. This Website is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children. It is possible that by fraud or deception IJC/ME may receive information pertaining to children. If IJC/ME is notified of this and is able to verify the information, IJC/ME will immediately delete the information from its servers.

Disclosures Pursuant to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act

IJC/ME complies with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA“), 17 U.S.C. §512. If I receive a copyright infringement claim, I will abide by the safe harbor requirements of the DMCA, which may require me to disclose your identity if you are either the party who allegedly infringed on another party’s copyright or you are the party filing the copyright infringement claim.

IJC/ME has taken reasonable precautions to protect personally identifiable information that is either available from or collected by this Website from disclosure, loss, misuse, or alteration of your information.
